Our Salt Lake City team at Steele Adams Hosman secured a $6.1 million verdict for one of our clients injured in a car accident.
In 2015, a Lube Management employee who regularly used drugs was driving while impaired. She crossed two lanes of I-15N in Davis County, sideswiping our client, Mr. Symes. As a result of the accident, Mr. Symes suffered permanent ligament damage to his spine.
Because the at-fault driver was operating a vehicle owned by Lube Management at the time of the crash, we initiated a cause of action naming both the driver and the company as defendants. We argued that the company did not follow its drug testing policies and put an unauthorized driver on the road.
The jury found that Lube Management was negligent in hiring, training, and supervising the at-fault driver.
The jury awarded our client:
- $113,625 for past medical expenses,
- $2.3 million for future medical expenses,
- $1.2 million for non-economic damages, and
- $2 million for punitive damages.
Additionally, our client’s wife was compensated $500,000 for loss of consortium.
